Rose Pellar is a graduate of Osgoode Hall law School. Within a year of becoming a lawyer in 1997, Rose Pellar decided to switch her Toronto general practice, which had included Family Law, Criminal Law, Real Estate, Wills and Estates, to focus on Family Law. Since 2007, her practice has been restricted to Family Law.
Rose has had the privilege of practicing as an Associate Lawyer with Oatley, Purser’s Family Law Division in Barrie in 2001, with McGee & Fryer in Unionville for four years and with Galbraith Family Law in Barrie from 2005 to 2006. On October 1, 2006 she opened up her own firm of Pellar Family Law and since September 1, 2021, she is now a proud member of the JMS Law team.
Having been divorced herself, Rose understands very well the toll separation takes on families, particularly the children. Consequently, her goal is to help her clients achieve resolution while avoiding the detrimental effects of lengthy court battles and high legal fees.
Rose Pellar recommends the collaborative process in which the parties and their lawyers agree not to threaten or take court action. The parties are then able to obtain an agreement in a respectful manner, in usually a shorter amount of time and therefore usually with less legal costs.
Rose, who was a founding board member of the York Collaborative Practice group in York Region, believes very strongly that individuals are better served by not going to court. The positive results of the many cases she has handled using the collaborative process fuel her dream that individuals will soon recognize collaborative process as the better way of resolving family law issues.
Rose is the author of a book “A Gift in Every Challenge” – a part memoir (about her Mom for whom divorce was not an option, and about her for whom divorce was the only option). Rose has facilitated Divorce Recovery Workshops and is actively developing a program for women who are going through a separation and divorce.
